Google at a Crossroads with Double Click and Virtual Worlds
Google is at a crossroads with the investigation into their purchase of Double Click and in for the fight of their lives against Microsoft. A senate panel did not take a definitive position on blocking or supporting the deal but did call for heavy federal regulation as well as recommending an increase in privacy protection at Google. Microsoft lost the bid to Google to purchase Double Click and is clearly pissed. Supposedly the Double Click acquisition gives Google control over the largest database of online users. The Federal Trade Commission is currently reviewing potential violations of antitrust laws. Google stock has as of yet been unaffected. Rumors of Google developing a version of Second Life virtual world and testing it on college students at the University of Arizona have also been swirling.
