First Steps in Starting a Business

1. Register your domain name. Some would say that you must first create a business name but really this is so tied to the availability of a good domain name that you must do the two at the same time.

2. Create an LLC and register with your Secretary of State. Creating an LLC provides some legal protection for your personal assets. There are many paid services that will do this and file the necessary paperwork with the Secretary of State such as Articles of Organization and Statutory Agent information as well as Affidavit of Publication.

3. Create a logo and business card. This can be easy and cheap or hard and expensive depending on what you want and who you contact.
